About the Crochet Christmas Cornet
I love these Christmas Cornets! I am pretty sure, that it is a Danish thing from the good old days, but you have my vote, if you spread them around international homes and trees as well 😉 I really like the shape, especially when they hang around round shaped ornaments – and: You put in candy! I like that!
These cornets are pretty small, because I made them for our appartment-tree. Which isn’t anyway near sealing, so these are perfect!
Time to produce: 30 minutes
Skill level: Medium
Size: 8 cm in height without the handle
For this crochet pattern on the Crochet Christmas Cornet, you have to be able to make a magic ring with increases, invisible finish, color change, the Shell stitch and a chain as a handle.
Pattern
Tools
Materials
Jute yarn may be a bit hard to crochet in for the fingers, but it will be really nice and stiff. It is primarily the start, that is quite tiring, but if you can survive it, you are good to go 😉
The Crochet Christmas Cornet’s body
You start with a 3.5 mm hook and crochet the body of the cornet, where you crochet from the bottom up. If the start is too difficult, make a magic ring with 6 single crochet and start at row 2.
Parentheses
What is in parentheses, must be repeated and multiplied by the number of times after the parentheses. For example: “(1 increase, 1 single crochet) 3 times” is “1 decrease, 1 single crochet, 1 decrease, 1 single crochet, 1 decrease, 1 single crochet”.
Start: Make a magic ring with 3 single crochet.
ROW 1 3 decreases (short “dec” = 2 single crochet in the same stitch) (6 stitches)
ROW 2 (dec, 1 single crochet (sc)) 3 times (9 sts)
ROW 3 9 sc (9 sts)
ROW 4 (1 sc, 1 dec, 1 sc) 3 times (12 sts)
ROW 5 12 sc (12 sts)
ROW 6 (dec, 3 sc) 3 times (15 sts)
ROW 7 15 sc (15 sts)
ROW 8 (2 sc, 1 dec, 2 sc) 3 times (18 sts)
ROW 9 18 (18 sts)
ROW 10 (dec, 5 sc) 3 times (21 sts)
ROW 11 21 sc (21 sts)
ROW 12 (3 sc, 1 dec, 3 sc) 3 times (24 sts)
Cut the yarn and weave in the thread.
If you crochet “on the wrong side” (like me), then the right side (neat side) turn outside, when the string from your magic ring turns inwards. That is, if your Cornet’s body ends up like this in the picture, then you must weave in the ends and turn the whole thing inside out 🙂
Make a row in single crochet
With hook size 3 mm, put on a new yarn in off-white and crochet 24 loose single crochet all the way around.
A border with Shell stitch and the handle
Now you have reached the point with the Shell stitch border.
When you crochet this, it is a bit different than normal. That is because your hook is smaller, to get a more firm border:
THE SHELL BORDER (1 sc (in the first stitch from the last round, where you attached the off-white yarn), skip 1 st, 5 double crochets together in the next stitch, skip 1) 6 times.
HANDLE 20 chains …
Attach the handle
… which you attach with a chain on the opposite side, without twisting it. Sew the end by sewing the handle a little better, and sew stitches in the chain, so that it avoids twisting, when you hang it up. Now you are done with your Crochet Christmas Cornet 🙂
Pearls on, candy in and up on the Christmas tree!
Then sew on beads, as you prefer, put a little good in and get it up on the tree. I put some of my mother’s “pebernødder” in (also a Danish and delicious thing for Christmas. All these traditions 😉 ), which are made according to Grandma’s recipe. Insanely good!
