About Favorite Christmas Ornament 2024
This year’s Favorite Christmas Ornament ❤️
Crocheting for me is a bit like comfort food: the soft, woolly yarn and the stitches, which are comfortable to make for the hands, are absolutely perfect, when you need a little extra selfcare.
2024 has been one of the tougher years to get through. I’ve needed a lot of hugs, and that’s why the Christmas Ornament is designed to look like a woolly sweater. Handmade love. A hug from the crochet hook. Like a trip to a holiday house in wintertime: It’s windy and cold outside, so you bundle up, in front of the fireplace and “hygger” with your family in woolen socks – and that good old woolly sweater, that just feels amazing.
Make lots of them and send them to all your loved ones, you want to hug a little extra this Christmas 🎄🤗❤️

Before you get started
Half double crochet in the 3rd loop

Step 1
Normally you would make your stitch here at the top of the row – you don’t do that here.

Step 2
Instead, you have to turn your piece, so that you come down the side of the stitch, and go into the loop that is just below the front loop – where my crochet hook is in here.

Step 3
Here you make your half double crochet (hdc): Yarn over, insert your hook in the 3rd loop …

Step 4
… yarn over, pull through. Now you have 3 loops on your hook: Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on your hook. You have just made a hdc in the 3rd loop 👏
Slanted Puff Stitches

Step 1
Skip 1 stitch and make a single crochet in the next one (where the needle is).

Step 2
Now you need to go back and crochet in the stitch you skipped – as shown here with the needle. This is how they become slanted.

Step 3
Here you make your Puff Stitch: Yarn over, insert your hook in the stitch, yarn over and pull through. Repeat 2 more times so you have a total of 7 loops on the hook. Try to pull the yarn up as evenly as possible the 3 times you do it.

Step 4
Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on your hook. You can twist your hook a little and pull the hook up and away from the piece, so that it slides through more easily. It may need your patience, the first many times you do it – it will get easier, the more times you do it 🙏🤗
Video
I have made a video showing the stitches and techniques I use along the way. It can also be a good support.

Pattern for the Favorite Christmas Ornament 2024
Chain: ch
Turning chain: tch
Single Crochet: SC
Back Loop Only: BLO
Half Double Crochet : HCD
Puff Stitch: PS

START Longer starting end (approx. 30-40 cm – used for sewing, when you have finished crocheting) and then 26 ch + 1 tch (turning chains do not need to be crocheted in again, so skip it and start in the 2nd stitch from the hook), turn.
ROW 1 1 sc in the back loop only (not here in the foundation chain, but when you need to repeat this row), 24 hdc, 1 sc in blo, 1 tch, turn.
ROW 2-4 1 sc in blo, 24 hdc in the 3rd loop, 1 sc in blo, 1 tch, turn.
ROW 5-6 1 sc in blo, (skip 1 stitch, 1 sc in the next stitch, 1 puff stitch in the skipped stitch) x 12, 1 sc in blo (without skipping 1 stitch), 1 tch, turn.
Repeat rows 1-6 until you have 30 rows in total.
The piece will be approx. 8-9 cm in width and 16-17 cm in height with my crochet gauge. If your piece does not get the same measurements: No stress. As long as your height is approx. twice the size of your width, they will be neatly round ornaments ❤️
Gather uuuup!
I have made some helpful videos that should make it easier for you to understand the pattern. It’s just usually easier in live pictures 🙂 All videos are made and edited by Milla Billa. Music by www.bensound.com
