Shell Stitch
Here I show you, how to make the Shells. I show, how the shell is made, how to turn and tell a little about, how you can make it easier for yourself.
How to crochet the Stitch
The shell consists of 5 double crochets (dc) crocheted in the same stitch. You start crocheting the shell stitch with a single crochet (sc) in the first stitch, skip 2 stitches, make 5 double crochet (dc) in the next stitch, skip 2 stitches, make a single crochet (sc) and continue with 5 double crochet (dc) in same stitch. When you turn, you make a half shell, which is 3 single crochet (dc) in the last stitch. Once you have made them, turn with a chain (ch), and on the next row, you start again with a single crochet (sc) in the 2nd stitch from the hook, as you have just turned around.
This Stitch is kind of a classic, when it comes to crochet. It’s very used, and I am guessing, that it is very old too. When you get to know the pattern, it is super fast to make a dishcloth for example. It’s made in Double Crochet (dc), and that makes it very fast to crochet, which is very nice. It’s kind of a feminine stitch (if i am allowed to say that, here in 2021 😉 )
