About Baby Norah Rattleball
I made the rattleball when my friends’ beautiful Baby Norah was to be baptized. I have crocheted it to many babies since I’ve gotten good feedback about excited babies. Along with the filling, there are cut strips of oven bags inside that makes it a bit crunchy, and that’s probably a slightly fascinating sound as a baby.
This is the perfect crochet ball for baby.

For this free crochet pattern on Baby Norah Rattleball you need to be able to make a magic ring, single crochet, increase, invisible decrease, and change of yarn.
You can fill this crochet ball for baby as you wish. If you use oven bags, rattles, like the ones in the picture, and filling that can be washed at 60 degrees celcius, you are sure that you can wash it at high temperatures and kill most bacteria when washing.

You can make them in many different color combinations, and I am a fan of choosing a single color, and then find shades of the one.

When you ake this invisible, you crochet with 2 threads of cotton yarn 8/4 at the same time.
In order for the rows of the ball to look good, from round 4-21 you must finish each round with a slip stitch in the first stitch of the next round, then a chain and then you start with the single crochet in the same stitch (the same stitch, you made the slip stitch in). Then the laps will be neat and round. Use a stitch marker here until you get used to it – you can quickly get to crochet incorrectly, as it looks like there are extra stitches in the row. Put the stitch marker in the first stitch of each round.
NOTE: For the brown ball in the pictures I have chosen 3 colors instead of 4. The color changes are the same, but only with 3 colors instead of 4.
Start with color 1
ROUND 1 Magic ring with 6 single crochet (sc) (6 stitches)
ROUND 2 (Two single crochet together in the next stitch(1 inc)) 6 times (12 stitches)
ROUND 3 (1 sc, 1 inc) 6 times, 1 slip stitch (ss) in first st, 1 ch (18 stitches)
Change to color 2
ROUND 4 18 sc, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (18 stitches)
ROUND 5 (2 sc, 1 inc) 6 times, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (24 stitches)
ROUND 6 (3 sc, 1 inc) 6 times, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (30 stitches)
Change to color 3
ROUND 7 30 sc, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (30 stitches)
ROUND 8 (4 sc, 1 inc) 6 times, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (36 stitches)
ROUND 9 (5 sc, 1 inc) 6 times, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (42 stitches)
Change to color 4
ROUND 10 42 sc, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (42 stitches)
ROUND 11 (6 sc, 1 inc) 6 times, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (48 stitches)
ROUND 12 48 sc, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (48 stitches)
You have now reached the middle of the ball
Change to color 1
ROUND 13 48 sc, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (48 stitches)
ROUND 14 48 sc, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (48 stitches)
ROUND 15 (single crochet two together (1 dec), 6 sc) 6 times, 1 km in first st, 1 ch (42 stitches)
Change to color 2
ROUND 16 (1 dec, 5 sc) 6 times, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (36 stitches)
ROUND 17 36 sc, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (36 stitches)
ROUND 18 (1 dec, 4 sc) 6 times, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (30 stitches)
Change to color 3
ROUND 19 (1 dec, 3 sc) 6 times, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (24 stitches)
ROUND 20 24 sc, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (24 stitches)
ROUND 21 (1 dec, 2 sc) 6 times, 1 ss in first st, 1 ch (18 stitches)
Change to color 4
ROUND 22 (1 dec, 1 sc) 6 times (12 stitches)
All the ends that come from the many color changes can be stapled here. They can also just be left out and the ball turned so that the right side is turned out. Now put the filling in the ball together with strips of frying bag and rattles.
ROUND 23 12 sc (12 stitches)
ROUND 24 (1 dec) 6 times (6 stitches)
Finish with a slip stitch followed by a chain which is tightened. Leave a bit of yarn for closing and break the yarn.
Use a tapestry needle to run the yarn end through the 6 last stitches and gather the opening closed. Hide the end of the yarn inside the ball.
