Stitch Markers

What are Stitch Markers used for?

Stitch Markers are the little plastic gadgets that are a bit like safety pins. You can use them for many different things, and here I show how you can use them as a huge help for example:

To mark which hook size you use for your project

If you are one of the types who often have several projects underway, you can quickly forget what hook size you used on the project that is in the basket, which you started on half a year ago 😉

If you have crochet hooks that are in different colors, it is a really good idea to use a Stitch Marker in the same color as your crochet hooks. Here you can put in the color that match the hook size. Then you always know what crochet hook size you need to start the project again. Smart 🙂

How do you as a beginner use them so you get some neat and straight rows?

When you are new to crochet, you may end up making crooked lines. It’s super annoying! And frustrating! Now you have just spent so much time. Where it often goes wrong is because you don’t get to crochet all the stitches or accidentally skip some. It is most often at the beginning and end of a row that’s a hassle, because it can be a little hard to see. As a beginner in crochet, it is a really good idea to put a stitch marker in the first stitch in the row. That means, that you will end up with 2 stitch markers in your piece, because you turn and crochet the other way. When you reach the stitch with the stitch marker in, you can count the stitches in the row, and know if you have counted correctly, because this is the last stitch.

How to pause your project and avoid the work being threaded up

When pausing your project, it is a really good idea to put a stitch marker in the loop. Then it doesn’t unravel and nothing can happen by putting it away.

Enjoy and have fun with the tips here 🙂
